Designing Density with Care

Cambridgeport Residences – Cambridge, MA

Evergreen Architecture is honored to have been an early implementer of the City of Cambridge recent zoning changes that permit denser neighborhood development. We designed the conversion of a single-family home on a well-established residential street into a two-family residence. Each has its own private outdoor space. The upper unit roof deck has city views.

The four-story townhouse provides both households with multiple levels of living space, yet the building’s mass fits gracefully within the scale of the surrounding three-story neighborhood. Our design demonstrates that denser development can offer high-quality living without resorting to midrise construction, as neighborhoods are upzoned to provide more “missing middle” housing on infill sites.
